Our Rotary Retort Furnace is designed to maintain the consistently superior quench hardening performance required for fast, economical, uniform heat treating of small parts.  It provides the process flexibility to be utilized for either single or multi-application production environments. An adjustable speed heat resistant cast retort fitted inside the Rotary Retort furnace facilitates constant motion for the work piece.

Features:

Electric Design – The electrically heated design features  high grade heating elements that are easy to maintain and replace.

Retort – The cantilevered, one piece cast retort is supported at one end and sealed at the charge end of the furnace. There are no seals or bearings in hot areas or at the discharge end.

Rotary Mechanism –The parts are conveyed smoothly and quietly through the furnace.  Rotation of the retort has a wide range of speed adjustments to provide complete flexibility of time processing cycles.

Atmosphere Tight – The retort is supported by a sealed bearing, and the quench is flange mounted to the furnace.  Only the small load door opens momentarily with each rotation of the retort.

Low Maintenance – No baskets or trays are required. The retort is the only moving part exposed to heat.

Automation – Heat Treating is completely automatic after loading parts.

No Pits - The system requires no pits or special foundations; it is designed for floor level installation.

 

Applications:
Rotary retort furnaces are used to process an exceptionally wide variety of small parts including screws, nuts, bolts, nails, washers and coins. The rotary retort furnace is particularly adaptable to controlled atmosphere hardening, carbonitriding, and carburizing operations in the range of 840 to 955 Degree C.

Heat treatment (or heat treating) broadly refers to a group of thermal processes in industrial and metallurgical applications used to intentionally alter the physical and sometimes chemical properties of a material (usually a metal).  These changes in physical and chemical properties usually take the form of hardening or softening of a material by heating it in a high-temperature furnace or cooling it to extreme temperatures.

 

Heat treatment furnaces are essentially heating chambers containing the steel cylinder head as well as the heat. The oven chamber is heated by a heat source. Depending on requirements, the heat supply must be regulated. More heat is required during the heating season in continuous mesh belt furnaces, but once the stove has reached the required temperature, almost constant heat is required and must be maintained at that temperature.

 

Heat must be supplied to the entire suitably designed stove so that the temperature is constant throughout or in places where the load is stored, otherwise, some parts may heat up or overheat. Doors or openings are kept as small as possible to reduce heat loss. Temperature and low-temperature ovens may require provisions for forced air or atmosphere circulation in continuous mesh belt furnaces Case-hardened parts can be hardened in the furnace itself.

 

Heat treatment furnaces play a very important role in providing repeatable useful properties to steel components. Furnace design is determined by the material to be treated and the specific treatment that needs to be performed at the specific temperature. If parts need to be heat treated at different temperatures multiple furnaces may be required as a furnace that may be suitable for use at 1300°C may not be suitable for use at 300°C even though this last temperature is within its is maximum. Temperature range.

 

This is because heat transfer below 700°C and especially 300°C is mainly by conduction and convection. Radiation plays a relatively minor role. Therefore, the box oven is not suitable. Convection ovens are required. Therefore, tempering furnaces cannot be used for tempering. Modern oven designs are so advanced that there is a specific oven for every temperature range. There is no furnace that performs all heat treatments efficiently.

The furnace design depends on the required throughput, the process requirements for heat treatment and the required cycle time. The conveyor technology is tailored to the required working temperature, geometry and weight of the charge and to the requirements regarding available space and integration into the process chain. The conveyor speed and the number of control zones are defined by the process specifications.
